Our Partnerships

Stirling Harbor Foundation is honored to collaborate with other nonprofits in our efforts to make sailing accessible to all. We currently partner with the Centre Island Bird Sanctuary and SailAhead.

  • SailAhead is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2013 that is dedicated to using sailing as a therapeutic platform to help heal wounded veterans, especially those suffering from post-traumatic stress. SailAhead has been creating sailing opportunities for veterans all around Long Island, and in Buffalo Harbor and the Puget Sound out of Tacoma Washington.

Their goal is to reduce the rate of suicide among the veteran population, and to increase their quality of life by introducing them to the sport and world of sailing. Since their inception, SailAhead has taken 4,000 veterans and their family members sailing.

  • The Centre Island Bird Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) organization with a commitment to preserving critical habitats for migratory birds and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for avian conservation through education. They operate on the water, providing guided birdwatching tours aboard sailing and motor vessels that explore the waters of Long Island. They hope to share the beauty (and love) of birding with you! Join them on expeditions to engage in citizen science, deepen your connection with nature, and become a better birder.
